Ewan is FIVE! We celebrated his birthday before school started, with all the family squeezed in our place. The kids somehow all showed up in neon and stripes. And Jeff and his brother were twinning. Lots of kids, lots of candy. Ewan asked for a Mario party, so I bought Mario fruit snacks, made the cake toppers, the table was covered in a bed sheet, and I made the piñata by cutting gold crepe paper into fringe strips and taped them onto the cardboard star. And the big surprise, he got his first BIKE! The one thing every five year old, kindergartener needs to begin their life as a big kid. :)

AUGUST 7TH, 2013
It was a BIG day.
Ewan turned FIVE!! He's been waiting a loooong time. All his preschool friends celebrated turning five and he was well aware that he was the last one left.
But he was the FIRST one to celebrate their birthday in Kindergarten... it fell on the very first day of school!
Lucky boy. Sobbing-mess mama.
I cried.
I cried the day before.
I picked fights with Jeff all week, just cause I was so anxious about it.
I have never been much of an outwardly emotional person. But lately, life changes and kids growing and maybe hitting 30... all have me dropping tears and getting emotional and stuff.
Not pictured are the big sunglasses I wore that morning to hide behind.
The whole scene was just gut-wrenching, seeing all the parents wave goodbye to their babies as they are off to a big, fast, new world.
Pretty sure I saw other moms wiping their eyes. Those will be my new friends. :)
........
The day, his BIG double whammy day, was a huge happy success of a day.
He felt special and big and FIVE and excited for all the new in his life.
And I couldn't be happier for him.
Five years of teaching, molding, nurturing, loving... has led to this day.
Go get 'em kid!

GRADUATE
ewan is a preschool graduate.
SO PROUD!
he went from baby to boy these last 10 months.
he learned his letters. his numbers.
holding scissors. cutting along the dotted line.
he now writes his name, raises his hand. started reading books. and has endless ideas for life.
he's a thinking. a rule follower. an early developing perfectionist like his mama.
together, we made it through a year of commuting 40 minutes to preschool every MWF.
which was worth everything to have my mother-in-law and best friend be his very first school teachers.
and now the year is a forever memory. the very best year.
so long precious preschool. kindergarten here we come!
